Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the city state belongs to all those living here that includes permanent residents and employment pass holders and was a special place to celebrate annual festivities amidst diverse groups.

Addressing a community celebration of the Indian New Year last night, Lee said: "Singaporeans, new arrivals, people who are on permanent residence here, people who are on employment pass here, all participating in one big Singapore family... So that we feel that this is a place which is special, which belongs to all of us and where we all celebrate one another's festivals and happy events together."

Dressed in red Kurta, Lee joined 600 residents at a community club of his constituency, tried his hand at a Thanjavur painting which was on cultural display and watched performances by classical Indian dancers.

Lee said the event was an embodiment of the theme, "Rhythms in Unity", as well as on a larger scale where everyone participates as one big Singapore family.

The Indian New Year fall on April 14 but some communities celebrate on different dates as per celebrations held in different parts of India. Singaporeans usually use weekends to celebrate on a large scale amidst multi-cultural society with one of the big celebrations held annually in the PM's constituency.

Indian makes up about 9 per cent of over 5 million Singaporeans and those living here. Chinese accounts for 74 per cent and the Malays form 13 per cent of the population.

Past reports have noted Singaporeans having discriminated against newly arrived migrants. But Lee's government has emphasized the importance of new migrants for boosting the city state's economic growth and future prosperity.

The idiot is at it again.

Sometime I think these people just talk without thinking. Lee forgot to address the difference between Singapore born man who has to sacrificed they live to serve NS when people can just come in and be PR or citizen just because they gave lots of money to the government.

Singapore can only belong to everyone living here IF and only IF there is a fair treatment for all on this island.

All these years the PAP are desperate for more money for feed their fat pay checks so they just import anyone.

They welcome the these FT like GODS and hope our old can continue to work beyond retirement age as cleaners whey the Men In White enjoying their millions and free medical.

Look at a good example of waste of tax payer money.

Govt has always been working with S'poreans to improve lives: PM

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong says the government has always been working with Singaporeans to improve their lives and that the ruling party, through successive generations, has always kept the people's interests at heart.

He was speaking at the People's Action Party's (PAP) rally for Punggol East by-election on Thursday night.

Joining candidate Dr Koh Poh Koon in his final rally for the campaign, Mr Lee urged voters to consider carefully what the by-election is about.

He stressed that the by-election is about choosing the right person with the heart and abilities to serve.

The by-election is also about supporting a good government that will serve Singaporeans and their family. It is also a vote for a better life.

Mr Lee stressed that by working together, the PAP government has transformed Singaporeans' lives.

One example is Punggol, which has been totally transformed from pig farms, kampongs and dirt roads to the Punggol 21 Plus and the award winning Punggol Waterway, he said.

And this is the same all over Singapore, said the Prime Minister.

He stressed that what Singapore has achieved no other country has done and this was done together with Singaporeans working together with successive PAP governments.

Mr Lee also refuted the opposition's accusations that the PAP has changed. He said successive PAP governments, from Mr Lee Kuan Yew to Mr Goh Chok Tong to his leadership team, have had to change policies with the times.

But the party's fundamental ideals have not changed, neither has its goal to help the low-income, elderly and the middle-class.

For the elderly, Prime Minister Lee emphasised that they had helped build Singapore together and that the government will not forsake this generation.

He stressed that the government will always stay on the side of Singaporeans and continues to maintain high standards of integrity.

He went on to explain that another thing that has not changed in Singapore is that the PAP still maintains high standards of integrity.

One aspect of this is honesty, and the PAP has always been honest with Singapore, said Mr Lee.

Another example of integrity is how the party handled embarrassments and mistakes, and one example was the resignation of the former Speaker of Parliament, Michael Palmer.

The Prime Minister recounted that when Mr Palmer offered to resign, he accepted and handled the matter transparently and openly and hence the Punggol East by-election.

Mr Lee once again apologised for putting residents through another election but added that the way the PAP had handled the matter was completely different from the way the Workers' Party had handled the Yaw Shin Leong affair in Hougang when the former MP went missing in action.

The Prime Minister conceded that nobody is perfect and certainly not the PAP.

He said the party makes mistakes and lapses from time to time but it admits to its mistakes and shortcomings and did its best to set things right and work with Singaporeans to do better.

Mr Lee said that is how the party has maintained its reputation for so long and that is how it must uphold the integrity of the system in future.

So the Prime Minister stressed that the question to ask is: what will Singapore be in 10 to 20 years and the kind of leaders the country wants - honest leaders who will explain the challenges and work with the people to overcome them or those who make empty promises and leave it to others to get the job done.

Mr Lee said the country needs to develop a capable and committed leadership for Singapore with good MPs to represent the people and constructive politics to tackle the country's challenges together.

Mr Lee urged Singaporeans to continue to support the PAP.

"The People's Action Party has not changed its purpose and what's its purpose? Action for the People; to act on your behalf, to be your representative, to be your servants, to be your agent to make happen in Singapore what we all would like to see happen. That's the reason why the people join the PAP," he said.

Mr Lee called on Singaporeans to vote for PAP candidate Dr Koh, saying he will be able to contribute significantly.

He said Dr Koh will not only be able to help Punggol East residents, but that he has the potential to do more for Singapore.





As I have said before, I love Election!


It is quite fun to see how diluted the PAP still is and at every election times, they are always caught with their pants down and start to babble nonsense.

Some sound so stupid that you can’t believe these people are actually “leader” of our country.

I tried to watch the PAP rally but I always got so sick at the beginning that I have to stop before I start to hyper ventilate.

So I just watch the news summaries and read from the newspapers what was said at the PAP rally, being a PAP dogs, the main media can’t be reporting wrongly, so I guess they pretty up summarised the rally accurately.

Not surprising Amy Koh was present yesterday trying to really the people. She was the most popular PAP MP from GE 2011 and therefore the PAP hope she can use her celebrity status to bring in more vote.

But what she said last night was of no substance and even made he look stupid.

“Minister of State Amy Khor said that she had seen how Dr Koh interacted with people of all ages. "I believe he's the best person to serve you," she said.

"PAP cares about the elderly - if you look back, special attention has been made to address concerns," she said. She outlined elderly-friendly moves made by the PAP, and added that the example of BMW's employment policies that was cited by the WP was first raised by DPM Tharman.

She also said that under PAP policies, no one will be deprived of medical treatment just because they cannot afford to pay for healthcare.” – TODAY ONLINE 25 Jan 2013-01-25

Here’s my rebut to Amy.

Please tell us how long you know Dr Koh and how many occasion you seen him interacted with people and how you conclude he is the best person to serve punggol east. In fact do you know punggol east? May I remind you Dr Koh is only a 3 weeks PAP member.

If PAP cares about the elder then why our elder still have to work as low salary worker, why they still need to pay for high medical cost and wait half a day to see a doctor at poly clinic?

You say no one will deprived of medical treatment, yes they just have to wait very long to see a doctor and they died before that.

Get some reality check Amy. The best for PAP MP now is to keep quite and don’t look stupid.

You can read from this super long article about his rally speech last night. Gosh he actually spoke for an hour.

Hsing Loong said PAP has always been working with Singaporean to improve their lives.

Rubbish, when you actually listen to us?

When people in the oppositiong ward are put last in lift upgrading and their town council sabotaged?

Do you really care about all Singaporean or only those that voted for you?

If you really care about Singaporean, what is happening to our reserve? Why are you using our money for your own investment and is allow not to report it? Even the late President Ong can’t even get the number. Bloody blood sucker. Still dare to say you are honest to the people.

The fact that the PAP is in power for so long is all these unfair election system. The GRC system, the constant change of the borders of constituency let the PAP had a firm grip of the parliament.

In GE 2011 PAP only won 66.6% of the vote but they control 91% of the parliament!

This certainly is not a correct representation of Singaporean wish in Parliament.

Wake up PAP, do more correct and good things for Singapore and only then you will only lose more votes and stop sounding stupid.

Till then people will vote for those who really care about them.

Govt 'will manage social impact of immigration'
PM Lee urges newcomers to the Republic to play their part in adapting to society

SINGAPORE - Hong Kong and Singapore, which have seen an influx of Chinese immigrants in recent years, have had to adjust to the social impact of a rising China, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong yesterday.

Speaking at the closing dialogue of the FutureChina Global Forum, Mr Lee said Singapore deals with this issue by managing the inflow of immigrants and getting them to adapt to the local way of life.

He felt it was "completely understandable" that Singaporeans may feel uncomfortable with the recent influx of mainland Chinese immigrants, who may look the same as Singaporean Chinese but sound and behave differently.

Mr Lee said the Government will continue to manage the social impact of immigration and urged newcomers to play their part.

"We have to encourage the non-Singaporeans who are living here to adapt to the circumstances in Singapore and understand that this is a different society with different values and cultures, and (a society that is) multi-racial and religious," he said.

"(They) have to make those adaptations which the Singaporean Chinese have adapted and learnt over several generations.

"Of course, we also have to manage the numbers and the flow and make sure we're not overwhelmed. We have to make sure there is effort on both sides to make this a working, adapted and well-adjusted relationship."

The forum brought together more than 60 speakers to share insights on China's evolving society and culture.

On the issue of attracting and retaining talent in the Republic - a problem faced by cities around the world - Mr Lee said: "We must expect that people will go and, at the same time, we must attract people who can make a contribution to Singapore to come to Singapore."

Singapore is an attractive choice because there are opportunities here and it is an exciting and good place to live, he added.

"We try to make it such that if you come (to Singapore) and make a contribution, you can do well and fulfil your potential. I think we have to be like that if Singapore is to prosper."

On the business front, Mr Lee said Singapore companies can benefit from the continued cooperation between the two countries. The key to success is to ensure that companies continue to deliver and that the Singapore brand does not get tarnished, he said.

It took a lost of a GRC for the PAP to realise the seriousness of the situation on how ordinary Singaporean are sick to the neck of the open immigration policy of the government.

Hsieng Loong used to tell Singaporean on how much we need to rely on foreigner and Singapore will be collapse and lose it competitive edge if we don’t have them.

Now after losing the record number of seats in the parliament the PAP is stating to sing a different tune.

 They are now finally putting a filter on the open flood gate and is now telling the immigrant to changed instead of asking the Singaporean to change.

Frankly I think it is too little too late and I foresee the PAP will lost more seats in parliament in the next GE. Why? Because the changes PAP promised in the last GE is taking too long and till now I don’t see any concrete improvement of Singaporean lives since.

What we need now is to send stronger signals the incumbent that your Elite pro policy is obsolete and we demand changes. Give me back the Singapore we want!

 These policy makers are sitting comfortably in their ivory towers, they don’t sit and eat at the same table with the immigrants, they don’t fight for seats with them on the MRT and buses, they don’t queue up at the supermarket with them and they don’t wait in line at the polyclinic with them so how can the Elites know the Peasants problems?

Till now I cannot see how serious the PAP is to make life in Singapore better for the ordinary folks.

 So I guess the people will not take you seriously too dear Hsien Loong.

Hsein Loong's Cheap shot is making me sick

By-election a chance to elect reliable candidate: PM

Prime minister Lee Hsien Loong yesterday called on Hougang residents to make use of the by-election to elect a reliable and committed candidate to serve them well.

In a post on his Facebook page, which he started just over two weeks ago, Mr Lee wrote: "I encourage Hougang voters to use this opportunity wisely, to elect the best candidate with commitment and integrity: someone they can rely upon to express their hopes and concerns, address their needs, and make a real difference to their lives."


He explained that he had already made known his intentions, during Parliament, to call for a by- election in the single-member Hougang ward after it was left vacant in February. But he reiterated that "the Constitution does not require me to call a by-election within any fixed timeframe".


Mr Lee said he advised President Tony Tan Keng Yam yesterday morning to issue the Writ of Election, which he attached to his Facebook post.


In his post, Mr Lee wrote that the Workers' Party (WP) and former Member of Parliament (MP) for the ward, Mr Yaw Shin Leong, had "let down all those who voted for him".


In February, the party said it had expelled the beleaguered former MP from its ranks after he failed to come clean about his rumoured extramarital affairs.


In a strongly worded statement issued at that time, the WP added that Mr Yaw had "broken the faith, trust and expectations of the party and people".


He was reported to have left the country a day after he was expelled.


Last Saturday, The Straits Times reported that he and his wife were in Hanoi.


But Mr Lee said yesterday that the WP "has not given Singaporeans a full and proper account of what happened, or why it acted in this way".


He added: "Mr Yaw himself has said nothing, either to explain or to apologise for his behaviour, and has reportedly left the country."


He noted that the WP had, initially, chosen to keep mum when the allegations surfaced.


"The WP first kept totally silent, then supported Mr Yaw, and then, three weeks later, suddenly expelled him from the party," he wrote.


"I hope these events will not distract us from focusing on our national priorities, and building an inclusive Singapore."


Mr Lee posted the note just before 4.30pm yesterday and, by 7pm last night, it had attracted 70 comments from netizens and was shared over 265 times.


Many of those who responded to his note welcomed the call for the by-election.


Netizen Benedict Jacob-Thambiah wrote: "As someone who lives within Aljunied GRC, I am tired of sharing MPs with the people from Hougang. Besides, the MPs for Aljunied weren't elected to speak for the people of Hougang in Parliament."


Aljunied GRC was also won by the WP last year.


Another netizen, Subramaniam Thirumeni, said: "This is a positive step in a new and fair political direction that our nation is hopefully embarking on."


Others, like Jmm Limm, questioned the timing of the by-election, saying that rumoured PAP candidate Desmond Choo had been given "enough time to make inroads into Hougang" as a result of the delay






Ah the excitement of the Election is coming again, good opportunity and a reminder to us how stupid, dumb and ridiculous the incumbent can be. A pity it is not a public holiday.



Hsien Loong lead the way to shows how ridiculous the People Action Party is.

He took this opportunity to take a cheap shot at WP (Maybe he is afraid?) reminding people how lousy the last MP was and it is not for the resident to choose someone a reliable guy from his camp.

That’s strange there are quire a few un-reliable guy from his camp now and some even became Minister and I am sure they did let down Singaporean not once but on quite a number of occasions. *Cough* Mas Selamat *Cough* MRT breakdown *Cough*Lesser Mortal *Cough* Mee siam mai Hum *Cough*


Hsien Loong went on babbling on how lousy WP is and hey for God’s sake can you be a gentlemen and make this election a fair and proper one and not going down the dirty path?

I dare Hsien Loong to relinquish his seat for Ang Mo Kio GRC and come and run in Hougang to see how popular he really is.


One on one a fair fight. Don’t see many Men In White have the balls to do it.
